As you may know, our church is part of a coalition supporting Habitat for Humanity, and many of our members have participated in work days building homes. On June 4th the Milwaukee District Garden Clubs will sponsor a Plant Share at Habitat headquarters in Milwaukee and offer free plants and garden accessories to Milwaukee County Habitat homeowners. At the Plant Share garden club members share their knowledge and assist with selection of the plants with homeowners as well as build flower, vegetable, and herb container gardens with them. The undersigned is co-chairman of this event, as well as the separate Education seminar for up to 30 homeowners on Saturday, May 21st before the Plant Share for which the homeowners get hourly credit for attendance. The District has not been able to hold the Plant Share since 2019, and the homeowners always look forward to this favorite yearly event with openness and excitement to be able to take pride in and enhance their yard!
Members of garden clubs divide plants in their gardens or donate plants and other organizations also contribute plants so there is usually a large array of plants and accessories, however, this year some organizations aren’t able to contribute – for instance, the District will not be able to receive any leftover plants from the spring State Fair Master Gardener’s sale because the sale will not take place.
So, if you would like to donate/divide any plants from your garden or by purchase, I would be more than happy to collect them (annual or perennial flowers, vegetables, herbs) at church and bring them to the plant share on June 4th.
(However, please do not dig in your gardens if you ever had any jumping worms!)
Trays for the plants will be/can be placed on the side of the church front overhang and will be collected periodically until June 1st. Thanks for your consideration!
