In a time of community-wide crisis we see the best in people emerge.

HAWS is grateful for your dedication to our mission. We wanted to share with you, our closest friends, what action steps we are taking to support the community during the COVID19 crisis and how you can support our continued work.

As an emergency response facility, the HAWS team is called upon to lead the community in animal welfare and provide sanctuary for animals in need.
Over the past week more than 100 HAWS’ pets have found their forever homes! These pets will provide respite, comfort and connection to their new families during these uncertain times. This is incredible!

Our work supporting the community during the COVID19 crisis continues:
HAWS provides long term emergency care for pets in the community whose owners are facing health and financial crises.
Through our Safekeep program, HAWS supports pets and their people with the most urgent needs.
Our 24/7 team responds directly to crisis in the community working hand in hand with police, fire and EMT responders to care for pets impacted by crisis.
HAWS has established a Pet Pantry, located at our shelter on Northview Road in Waukesha, for community members to not only leave pet food and supply donations but also take from as needed.

How You Can Help
Online financial gifts of any amount make a significant and direct impact on our mission of supporting the community during this time.

  • $100 supports a week long stay for a community pet in crisis care at HAWS
  • $75 provides meals for the shelter’s highest needs pets unable to be placed in the community during COVID
  • $50 provides emergency medical exams and care for shelter and community pets in need
  • $25 provides enrichment activities for pets residing at the shelter during the crisis
  • $10 ensures cleaning supplies for a day in the shelter

Our doors remain open during the COVID19 crisis facing our community.

Under the guidance of the CDC, the State of Wisconsin and the Humane Society of the United States, we’ve enacted additional protocol and scheduling to ensure our team’s safety.
Our team of 60 employees is working around the clock to ensure pets are going home, pets with the highest needs continue to receive impeccable care, community members are reunited with lost pets and are offered peace of mind knowing their companion animal is being cared for while they themselves are facing an emergency.

Our community always rises to challenge; together we will navigate this crisis.
