“How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help?  Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.”
1 John 3:17-18 NRSV
Currently, over 12,000 Afghan evacuees are being temporarily housed at Fort McCoy army base, with almost half of them children. They have been screened and vetted by intelligence, law enforcement, and counterterrorism professionals from across the U.S. government.  The group is largely made up of people who worked with the U.S. government in Afghanistan, including translators, drivers, cooks, and pilots, as well as others whose jobs put them at risk like journalists, human-rights advocates, and aid workers.  There are also family members of American citizens or green card holders.

Before and after church on the coming two Sundays, 10/10 and 10/17, we will be collecting clothing and footwear for the men, women, and children refugees to be provided to the Islamic Society of Milwaukee (which is grateful for our help) for its further distribution to Fort McCoy.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED: Clothing and footwear in SMALL and MEDIUM sizes are needed for men, women, and children as further specified; ONLY NEW underwear/undergarments; GENTLY USED AND LAUNDERED OR NEW WINTER CLOTHING such coats, jackets, sweaters, pants, hats, gloves, socks, and scarves; boots and comfortable/stable walking shoes such as tennis shoes.

As of present, we understand that each Afghan is allowed to pick initially 10 items to keep. TABLE DISCUSSION:  If that were you, what kind of items would you pick?  If you have any questions regarding the items to collect, please contact Connie Sandell at 414-476-8277 or [email protected].
