How we adjusted
THANK YOU to BCC members and friends who so graciously continue supporting Mayfair Road Food Pantry! The name may have changed but the need for this pantry continues and especially during this unprecedented period. While we may struggle with making trips to the grocery store, we have the ability and capacity to do so; many others in the wider Milwaukee area do not. We appreciate the leadership Epikos Church has taken since purchasing the Calvary UCC building. They are passionate about reaching out and helping the community and strongly support continuing the food pantry. Many of their members have volunteered and we work closely with them on Wednesdays.
The Mayfair Road Food Pantry continues operating since it qualifies, along with other food banks and pantries, as a “relief center”. While we are seeing fewer customers than we had in early January, all who come are so appreciative and grateful we are open and distributing food items. Our operating plan has changed from inviting customers to come early, enjoy coffee and a snack plus welcome conversation while waiting for the pantry to open at 1 pm, to “stop and go”, drive-up food distribution. We follow safety guidelines of washing donated food, we wear gloves and starting this week, masks. A small group meets from 10-12 to assemble 3 bags of various types of non-perishable items. Beginning around 11:30 am, when customers begin arriving, we meet then at the door, note their name/family size and hand them the 3 bags of food, and hopefully a pizza or some type of frozen meat. Feeding America supplies have dwindled due to high demand for food from shoppers; therefore, we have been able to purchase less meat than prior to early March.
While some of our regular customers are not coming due to their own health issues, we continue seeing others, plus new customers referred by “Impact-211”. All who have come during the last three weeks are so very thankful for the food!
Thank you BCC for your continued support! It means so much to our customers!
