Mark your calendars for our February Concert: Simon Farintosh will be sharing works of Alexandre Tansman, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Luigi Legnani, J.S. Bach, Alexander Scriabin, and Thelonious Monk on February 14 at 7 pm. Simon is a promising young classical guitarist from the west coast of Canada. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree at The University of Victoria where he studied with Dr. Alexander Dunn. In 2018 Simon was awarded a teaching assistantship and full scholarship to The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree under the instruction of maestro Rene Izquierdo. Throughout his studies, Simon has performed in masterclasses for many luminary figures in the guitar world, including Pepe Romero, Kazuhito Yamashita, Roland Dyens, Jorge Caballero, Chen Zhi, Beijing Guitar Duo, Judicaël Perroy, Marcin Dylla, and Zoran Dukic.
Simon has garnered awards at competitions across Canada and the US, including 1st Prize at the 2018 Northwest Guitar Festival & Competition in Spokane, WA. He has been a featured artist for events and organizations such as the VCM Summer Guitar Academy (BC), The Classical Guitar Society of Tri-Cities (WA) and Madison Classical Guitar Society (WI). In addition to being a busy performer and competitor, Simon is a sought-after guitar instructor. He has served as a faculty member at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, where his students earned top scores on RCM exams and achieved great success in the local and provincial music festivals.
