“Live It Out” Adult & Youth Forum
Please join us in the Library for another learning experience on Sunday, February 18st at 11:15 following worship. The “Live It Out” Forums co-sponsored by the Stewardship, Mission and Christian Ed Ministry Teams will educate anyone interested about the work of a featured service organization in our community.
On February 18st, our guest speaker from a sister UCC church, the E&R United Church of Christ Waukesha, will share the work of their mission program called Baking Buddies. This program is a recent recipient of a Catalyst Grant for Innovation from the Wisconsin Conference UCC. Our guest, Mary Ann Proffitt, Director of Christian Education, will share their mission and work of addressing the lack of opportunities for persons with special needs to interact with those who do not have special needs and vice-versa.
This program has been developed and funded primarily by the youth group of the church who felt there were not enough opportunities outside of school for these types of interactions to take place. They discovered that too often people with special needs were directed to their own separate sports and extra-curricular activities. Baking Buddies has been able to connect adult and youth volunteers with special needs friends that have developed into some very meaningful relationships on both sides. Currently meeting just two times a year, they hope to find additional churches and volunteers to participate and engage in meaningful interactions.
One of the most unique parts of this program is that it was developed and has been funded to date by the youth of the church. We encourage our youth as well as adults to come and hear this inspiring story of young people who are living out their faith with radical hospitality for all, extravagant generosity and risk taking mission and service.
Hope to see you there! Broaden your knowledge of local mission organizations and perhaps discover a way you might “Live It Out”. Questions may be directed to Cathy Benjamin, 262-439-9029.
